Haiti's child slaves By PRI's The World from February 1, 2010

Haiti's children were vulnerable even before the devastating earthquake. Most had poor health care and little education. And many were exploited as child slaves. Marco Werman talks E. Benjamin Skinner who is the author of "A Crime So Monstrous: Face to Face with modern-day slavery". Skinner is also a fellow at Harvard's Carr Center for Human Rights. About 5 minutes.

Why the slavery continues?

We sometimes assume that because slavery was abolished in the 19th century, it doesn't go on today. However, Professor Kevin Bales has made a study of modern slavery and in his shocking book "Disposable People", he estimates that there are around 27 million workers enslaved today - whether they are in debt bondage in a Pakistani brick factory, imprisoned in a brothel in Thailand, or sweating in a charcoal camp in Brazil. Benin in Western Africa is the scene of child slavery and trafficking but why does it continue? and how do the conditions of slavery today compare with those in the past? About 11 minutes.

From the movie "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" broadcast in 1940, Lincoln-Douglas Debate. About 11 minutes.

Music includes Cornfield Holler, Larry David-Earth to America, Earth Anthem, Pete Seeger Protest Song, We'll Meet Again
